Riding and Horsemanship Lessons – Therapeutic, Recreational, and Integrated
Windrush offers horseback riding and horsemanship lessons for children and adults with and without special needs. The lessons focus on improvement of balance, posture, strength, flexibility, coordination, and self-assurance by teaching riding and horsemanship skills. Group lessons encourage the development of positive social skills and provide an opportunity for clients to learn from one another. Clients learn a strong sense of responsibility for their horse and the equipment, and develop empathy for their equine partner. Advanced equestrian skills, teamwork and cooperation are learned as the client becomes more independent. We also place a strong emphasis on horsemanship, such as: grooming, tacking, leading, horse behavior, basic care, and much more. We strive to develop competent and independent equestrians with a well-rounded knowledge of horsemanship both on and off the horse.
This unmounted program pairs a client, with or without special needs, with one of our specially trained volunteer coaches to work on individually developed goals in the barn. Clients have a hands-on learning experience performing various tasks around the farm and with the horses under the guidance and supervision of their volunteer coach.
