We work with five children every week who ride at least once a day and learn to take care of their horses. They also help to tend a vegetable garden and care for chickens. They pick salad from the garden to eat for lunch, and take vegetables and eggs home with them to their families. Clients work with energetic volunteers every step of the way. They read books and write stories with their volunteers, receiving extra attention that they may not receive in school. Our program mixes horseback riding with animal husbandry, gardening, reading and writing to expose young people to new experiences, to provide opportunities for skill development, and to reinforce academic skills.
Clients from City-to-Saddle, Lahey Behavioral Health, St. Ann’s Home and School, Esperanza Academy, Collegiate Charter Day School Lowell and more have benefited from this program. Recommended for children ages 10-14. Please contact us if you have individuals outside of this age range and we can discuss suitability. There is a 185lb weight limit.
